During a recent trip to Williamsburg, VA, I was able to tour Colonial Williamsburg for the first time. It was an extremely enjoyable experience. We toured all the trade shops of workers demonstrating their trade such as the blacksmith, wheelwright, milliner, cabinetmaker, silversmith, cobbler, weaver, and bookbinder. As someone who thrives off creating anything with their hands, it was a wonder to see all these tradesmen making things without the advantage of modern technology. The cobbler was literally sewing the sole onto a shoe, the blacksmith making nails, the weaver spinning yarn, and the silversmith crafting a pendant. I realize that in this day in age it isn't practical to know how to do these things. We have machines that make these in a fraction of the time for a fraction of the cost. But that's what makes these craftsmen even more special, in my opinion. They are preserving history, which is something we're quite fond of here at Yeoman's in the Fork.
