Books as Art

When most people think of fine bindings for books, they generally have a picture in their head somewhat resembling this:

But during my class, the teacher showed us a slide show presentation of some of the work he had done, which was incredibly different from anything I’d seen before. While it might not be 100% my taste (I tend more towards traditional), there is no denying the skill it takes to achieve this type of book design:
