This past Tuesday, Yeoman's in the Fork played host to a great group of College students from the O'More College of Design here in Franklin, TN. While the trip seemed to be planned as a way of showing the students a few of the key pieces in our inventory, it was a pleasure to rediscover with the group the importance of some of the pieces that we might take for granted. I often admire the high dollar pieces in our inventory (of course I would...), but I must say that I was glad to share in the love of a few of the less expensive pieces we have for sale. Special interest was paid to the vintage newspapers (dating to the late 1700's) that were printed on handmade paper. Hand Colored maps and prints took a center stage and the documents seemed to be enjoyed by all. It is great to get the reminder on occasion that we are not just about selling the super high dollar item; we are also about spreading the love of this hobby and industry. With any luck, the young adults who came out will pick up the interest in collecting and/or will share the importance and beauty of some of the pieces we carry with their future clients and friends. The printed word in all of its facets has a time and place in both life and design!
Thanks to Susan DeGarmo (Assistant Professor at O'More College of Design) and to all of the students who made their way to Leiper's Fork this week. I hope that you all had as much fun as we did! Together, we are all making a difference and carrying on the age old interest in rare paper, books, documents and ephemera. We look forward to hosting you again and again...
