THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF OUR 1ST ANNUAL 'LEIP INTO HISTORY DAY' HERE IN LEIPER'S FORK!!!
This past weekend, we were pleased to host four well-known authors, our first front yard book sale, and we even visited by old Benjamin Franklin himself. That's right folks, for those of you who missed out on the festivities on Saturday, we had Ben Franklin decked out in full regalia pacing the streets of Leiper's Fork (special thanks to our own Evan Ballard, who bit the bullet and put on the 20 plus pound costume to help us celebrate the special day). Bill Potter played lead off on our lecture series with a talk that included a little religion history, a little civil war history and a lot of Stonewall Jackson history. New York Times Bestselling author Robert Hicks followed Bill with a rousing and laughter filled talk about his books and the difficulties of being a fan of a writer as reclusive as the late Shelby Foote! I can honestly say that I never expected to hear a New York Times Bestselling author speak of 'accosting' a writer he admired at a stop light in Memphis, TN.
The second half of our talks features Professor Timothy Johnson and Williamson County historian Rick Warwick. Tim is a new member of our author/friend network and he gave a great speech on Winfield Scott and his new book, 'Liberty vs. Power'. Rick surprised us all with his addition of a slide show to accompany his discussion on local historical structures and buildings. I THANK EACH OF OUR SPEAKERS FOR HELPING US GET THIS ANNUAL EVENT OFF THE RUNWAY AND IN THE AIR.
During the talks hosted by Yeoman’s, the fun continued for the town folk and visitors to our little village. Period vendors selling everything from quilts to pipes put up shop in the Lawn chair theater area and a period encampment was underway just beyond the theater. It was a great day in the Fork and we are so proud to have played our part. NEXT STOP - CHILI COOK OFF AND SPOOKY STORIES AT YEOMAN'S ON OCTOBER 16TH!!
