Yeoman's in the Fork Blog

Saturday was an experience to say the least. The good people of Leiper’s Fork unified for a multi-faceted event. It could have been described by many, as a book sale, a fundraiser, a wine tasting party, or maybe even an historical event. To me it was a day of humid imprisonment for I had spent the majority of it costumed up as one of America's Founding Fathers.....Benjamin Franklin.

I remember feeling a little awkward, perhaps even a little uneasy about dressing up just to be somewhat gawked at. All of my concern disappeared within minutes as I went downstairs to test the waters. I heard a group of ladies chatting up a storm which died down with my entrance. We met eyes, I said hello, they reciprocated, and then one of them asked if they could have their picture taken with me. I agreed and the picture was taken followed by the lady saying "I don't remember Ben being so good looking". How could I feel anything but jovial after that? So with a newly rented costume and a freshly sparked penchant for making smiles I took to the streets of Leiper’s Fork to spread the word of our upcoming events.

I marched the road carrying a sign showcasing the several author speakings and signings we had to come. I'll be honest the outfit was heavy, sweltering, and had a not so funny smell to it but the surrounding milieu was uplifting enough to keep my spirits high. Several children curiously approached me wanting to know more about whom I was and what I was representing. Adults from all walks of life gave me a nice "How you doin?" with a wave. Passersby would stop just to show me their interest and appreciation in what our city was doing for our history. It was a good day for Yeoman’s in the Fork, a good day for Leiper’s Fork and, more importantly, a good day for history.
