That's right folks, if you have not heard by now the University of California at Berkeley has just released the first volume of the much anticipated autobiography of Mark Twain. The project has been brought to life 100 years after the death of Twain at his own request. Upon his death, apparently Twain left over 5,000 pages of his autobiography to the University with the specific instruction that it was not to be printed until the 100th anniversary of his death. This will most certainly secure Twain's place in printing history this century if that was not already assured by his numerous books that remain in print, beloved and treasured by children and adults alike.
Why would Twain do this??? It is speculated that the autobiography, that is currently slated to be a trilogy, is going to shed light on his beliefs and attitudes towards religion and the political environment at the time of his death among other things. As of right now I must admit that I have not read this book! My reading chair is ready for my company and my lamp has a new bulb, I just have no book to read... Have you tried to find one of these books? Local booksellers like Borders, Barnes & Noble and Books-a-Million are reporting sell-outs everywhere.... Popular websites for new books are out of stock and orders are going nowhere! What happened to printing in America folks??? Are we that unprepared and caught off guard by the fact that people actually want to read a NEW BOOK!!! I understand that I should join the 21st century and download the book to my widget of the week, but as I am a bookman, I would really prefer to hold the book and turn the actual pages as I take in the text. I want to see it on my shelf as a trophy after completion. Anybody out there who can find these, drop us a call or an email.... We are waiting patiently and ready to read scathing remarks from an American Icon that while dead for over 100 years appears to have the most sought after book on the planet...
