OK folks, after thinking about it and hearing about it for what seems like years, I have now tried to cook a meal using a recipe on a personal device. I am stuck in the stone age on this one guys! I love books and I can now add cookbooks to the many genres of books that I have become passionate about saving. Cookbooks show age... Cookbooks have notes from our parents... Cookbooks are stained and have a character that far exceeds that of any personality giving me verbal directions on how much garlic to add to the oil. How do I pause with grease on my hands? My device ended up covered in flour, stained with pineapple relish and will probably not last long after a bout on the floor after I knocked everything on the left side of the sink over! Just like having a paperback at the beach, there are some things that just go together. The only electronic device in the kitchen should be the BOSE system with Sinatra lending a hand to fill the room with good vibes and not just good smells... Cookbooks are a part of our past and were at one point a very valuable commodity. They were passed from generation to generation along with the coffee can of bacon grease that sat on your mother's range all of your life.

It seems to me that the cookbook has the capability of reinventing itself along with everything else, but when it comes to the actual ritual of cooking, the book on a wooden stand in the kitchen seems to just make more sense than an electronic device that can cost you hundreds of dollars when you drop a little cream of celery on it. JOIN THE FIGHT!! Save the cookbook!! Save the independent bookstore!! Save another longstanding American tradition before the digital revolution erases it along with all of our dog-eared books and smoke filled libraries... Go out and buy a new cookbook by the likes of Emeril, Wolfgang, Julia, Tyler Florence or Jamie Oliver! Stay home and cook the way we have for generations. After a great meal prepared the nostalgic way, sit back with a hot cup of apple cider and enjoy one of the books you have in your collection.
