As some of you may recall, last weekend Mike and I headed to Charleston, SC for The Low Country Civil War Show, and a day of book hunting in the coastal areas of South Carolina.
The drive down, the show itself, and the day of book hunting went as planned. But what we didn’t expect was the drive back and just how bad the weather would get!
We received hourly updates from friends and loved ones back in Nashville on Sunday that the weatherman was predicting 4” to 6” of snow in Nashville and Atlanta. Now those of you who live in the North would consider this amount of snow as a “dusting”, but here in the south it’s considered a Blizzard!
Mike and I studied our travel options, and opted to head west towards Atlanta, because the storm was moving east toward East Tennessee, North and South Carolina on Monday. We felt heading west was our safest option. Little did we know that this would turn out to be the longest drive back from Charleston in our lives!
First up was the ice on Ravenel Bridge, which left numerous cars against the guard rail as we were leaving our hotel. We were able to slowly make our way through South Carolina as the snow fell, but didn’t expect the 2 “ of ice we’d experience once we got closer to Atlanta, which stranded us for almost two days.
I was able to snap some photos as we were slip sliding along our way, for your viewing pleasure.
