Boston Anthenaeum, founded in 1807, is one of the oldest and most distinguished independent libraries and cultural institutions in the United States. Located at 10 ½ Beacon Street (which always reminds me of Platform 9 ¾ from Harry Potter), it boasts a collection of over half a million volumes and an Art Gallery with rotating exhibitions. Currently hanging in the gallery is a collection of the art of Edward Gorey, a Chicago-born prize-winning illustrator. There are approximately 180 objects, including original pen and ink illustrations, preparatory sketches, unpublished drawings and ephemera. I had the opportunity to see the exhibition while visiting Boston and highly recommend it. It is open to the public and showing until June 4. Check it out! http://www.bostonathenaeum.org/node/150
