Whenever I start thinking about what I want to paint on a fore-edge, I start to consider the possible limitations the particular book poses. I know what size dimensions I have to work within. I know the color of the pages will affect the paint colors, possibly in ways I don’t want. Then I throw all of that out of my mind and I start to listen intuitively—what belongs on this book? I wait until I see it in my mind’s eye and more importantly I wait until I feel it. It has to feel right. Then I begin the sketch and complete it on drawing paper. I then use the drawing as my model for the fore-edge painting.
So, back to my original question--What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail? The point in this fore-edge painting story is to show how when we choose to release our thoughts of limitations and why we can’t—then we can.
I am off to London and will be back in two weeks to share with you my fore-edge adventures in England. Till then—think thoughts of wonder and be limitless!
