Recently, a movie adaptation of the renowned Bronte book, Jane Eyre, was released (on March 11th to be exact). Unfortunately for a large number of fans, it was a limited release, opening in only four screens. As far as I can tell, it was planned to be slowly rolled out to other cities and there was a list of dates and cities on the official movie website. Obviously, I scoured the website looking for Nashville to be listed among the other cities, to no avail. Feverishly planning a road trip to either Atlanta or Louisville for the second weekend in April, I awaited the day when I would be able to see this critically acclaimed film based on one of the greatest novels I’ve ever read (what can I say, I’m a sucker for those 19th century British authors). Low and behold, to my surprise, JANE EYRE OPENED IN NASHVILLE!!! On Friday April 1. Naturally, I went to go see it. Accompanied by a friend that had already seen it (she had been in Chicago the weekend before), I watched Mia Wasikowska (of Burton’s Alice in Wonderland fame) and Michael Fassbender (a favorite of mine from 300 and Inglorious Basterds) embody the characters that I fell in love with almost a decade ago when I first read the novel. I highly encourage you to go see this film! One is always hesitant about seeing a movie that is based on a book that you love for fear of it ruining all the scenes you had played out perfectly in your head while reading it, but I have to say this is well worth the risk! To be completely honest, I saw the movie twice (and was even better the second time around), and wouldn’t mind seeing it again (to be sure, I plan on it…). Who’s in?
