This past weekend we loaded up 'Booker' and struck out for Marietta, GA. Marietta is not the place you would expect to find a top-notch book fair, but this show speaks volumes for the old Kinsella saying, "If you build it, he will come." Although the crowd was light at the Cobb County Civic Center, the organizers had more than done their job when it comes to the things that really matters to a book dealer on the road... The hotels were close, the food was good (and reasonably priced) and there were plenty of porters to help with packing when it was time to break down. This is the first year that the Georgia Antiquarian Book Fair was held at the new venue in Marietta, and I believe Jim Strawn and the GA Antiquarian Booksellers Association have found their home... We bought well and we actually sold well, especially considering that it poured rain and the show was in a totally new location. One of the foundations of a great show is to hold it in the same location year after year. Lighthouse Books in St. Pete have more than proven this with their annual show at 'The Coliseum' in downtown St. Pete.
It was great to meet new friends and always nice to see those who we have come to truly enjoy on the Southeast Book Fair circuit!
