The last several weeks I have been absorbing as much information I could, which feels akin to running on a race track. I have been fortunate to learn lots of new things during my September trip to England, plus new ideas for future fore-edge paintings.
Upon my return to the States, I had the good fortune of learning book binding techniques from Jeanne Bennett, which has increased my respect for book binders even more. The incredible patience and mind for detail which is essential for a book binder to either restore or create new case bindings is impressive. It certainly is not the work for everyone. It requires dedication for perfection and a deep love of books. Book binders have my utmost respect. They are maintaining the beauty of our culture in words, craft, and art.
Lastly, my training provided the opportunity to complete two one-of-a-kind fore-edge paintings with hand-crafted case bindings for Robert Hicks’ best selling novel, The Widow Of The South. These two books also have edge decoration on the head and tail. These two books are now available at Yeoman’s In The Fork.
